Hi All,
Aerodyme is pleased to announce STC SA00246BO, issued 04 Dec 06, which certifies replacement of Rockwell 114/A IO-540-T4B5D engines with the Commander 114B IO-540-T4B5 engine.
Highlights:
• The T4B5 saves $5,000 in overhaul/reman costs because Lycoming wants the old Bendix dual-mags retired and thus charges $5K more across-the-board to deal with the D engines.
• The oldest T4B5 engines are only 13. The youngest D engines are 27... and "zero timing" does NOT make them new again.
• The T4B5 engines are safer because the mags are truly independent instead of sharing a common drive.
• T4B5 engines run smoother because the Slick mags can be timed independently instead of splitting the left/right difference when timing a D engine.
This STC expands the market for B-model engines being traded in against upgrades to the IO-580, and gives 114/A owners a choice (and likely some savings) as their D engines come due.
