Designer Prop, pros and cons Frank Sapienza FS sapienza@noesys.com
Steve & Judi made some comments about the painted prop on the AOPA plane in the tangent going on in the "Recognition Awards" thread, and I thought I'd bring the discussion here.
I'm having Scheme Designers develop a paint design for N127XY (to be renumbered N2761B), and as part of the process I was thinking about getting the prop done to match.
I look at it this way: When you get the prop overhauled they're going to paint it anyway. Grey for Hartzell, and black for McCaulley. It's a given that the paint will chip over time regardless of the color.
What's the difference if it gets painted white, or whatever color matches the airframe? Craig at Scheme Designers mentioned that he felt it was a worthwhile change because it ties the prop in with the rest of the design.
So, what are everyone else's thoughts about a designer prop? Steve & Judi, can you give more detail about your objections?
